It’s electrifying – last piece of mechanical jigsaw arrives ahead of launch
Honfleur’s electric propulsion motors have arrived – and been installed – just ahead of launch on Friday 14 December.
The motors are an important component in our next ship’s gas-electric propulsion system, each driving a shaft line. Their speed and torque will be adjusted continuously, whether the ship is at sea or manoeuvring.
Propellors turn more slowly at reduced speeds during slower crossings and also during port manoeuvres, thus avoiding vibrations that can sometimes be felt on other ships. For these conditions gas-electric propulsion also delivers lower fuel consumption, with fewer emissions.
